2011-02-08 - On February 8, 2011, Canada Excellence Research Chairs, university presidents, business leaders and cabinet ministers came together to celebrate the world-leading research funded through the Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC) Program.

Held at Ottawa’s Château Laurier hotel and hosted by the University of Alberta, “An Evening with the Canada Excellence Research Chairs” was also an opportunity for university leaders to thank the Government of Canada for their commitment to nurturing Canadian research and talent.

Government of Canada strengthens knowledge economy

The conference began with Minister of Industry Tony Clement announcing a $275-million investment in the program.

TCPS 2 – Revised Tri-Council Policy on Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans

2010-12-13 - Canada’s three federal research agencies, CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC, jointly created the Interagency Advisory Panel on Research Ethics (PRE or the Panel) as part of a collaborative effort to promote the ethical conduct of research involving human participants. The Panel develops, interprets and implements the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS).

Highlights of Innovation 2010

2010-12-08 - Innovation 2010 was a groundbreaking summit where Canadian leaders from publicly-funded research organizations and private enterprises gathered for the express purpose of building the next generation of partnerships, networks and tools to accelerate knowledge mobilization and commercialization of innovation for the benefit of Canadians.

The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, gave the main keynote address of the conference at noon on Monday, December 6, when he announced $61.1 million in funding for five new centres of excellence for commercialization and research.

2010-12-06 - The Centre for Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine, the Centre for Imaging Technology Commercialization, Leading Operational Observations and Knowledge for the North, the MiQro Innovation Collaborative Centre, and the Wavefront Wireless Commercialization Centre are five new centres to be funded by the Government of Canada through the 2010 Centres of Excellence for the Commercialization of Research (CECR) competition.

Business-Led Networks of Centres of Excellence – 2010 Small and Medium-Size Enterprise Co-operative Funds

2010-12-06 - The Public Sector Advisory Board (PSAB) met in Ottawa on October 6, 2010, to make recommendations to the NCE Steering Committee on the proposals submitted by Business-Led Networks of Centres of Excellence. After a thorough review of the submission material and following extensive deliberations, the PSAB concluded that five of the seven submitted projects met the required threshold of excellence and will will be funded a total of over $1.4 million.

Minister Clement Announces Investments to Speed Innovations to the Marketplace

2010-12-06 - The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, today announced that the Government of Canada is fast-tracking innovations from the lab to the marketplace through grants to five new Centres of Excellence for Commercialization (CECR). This investment will create jobs and help to foster environments where researchers are able to commercialize their findings to the benefit of Canadians. The five new centres will respectively support microelectronic businesses, regenerative medicine technologies, medical imaging innovations, monitoring technologies used in Canada’s North, and the wireless industry.
